Waitrose, Malvern

Product:
Permacrib
Client:
John Lewis Plc
Contractor:
Costain Construction Ltd
Project:
Waitrose, Malvern
Wall Height:
9.3 metres

Permacrib Permacrib timber crib retaining walls up to 9 metres high were constructed on the site of this new Waitrose store. Extensive excavation and re-grading of the site was required to form a level site for the store and car parking. The design depth for these walls required multiple header depth construction i.e. two and three header depths at ground level reducing the single depth at the top.

A stepped front face configuration was adopted which not only incorporated planting ledge to soften the impact of the wall but by ingenious component arrangement in the design created a pedestrian access from a public footpath at the top of the wall down to store level.

Solution:
Phi Group provided a complete design, supply and installation package including slope stability analysis for the 1700m2 of Permacrib and 940m2 of Soil Panel RS retaining wall as well as supplying and fixing the pedestrian steps and handrails, and Permabags for planting the face of the wall.
