Situated alongside the River Mersey and less than a mile from the centre of Warrington, Saxon Park is a major new residential development within commuting range of Manchester and Liverpool.
Raised site levels, following environmental remediation of the site, presented housebuilders Wimpey Homes and Miller Homes with a problem. They had to retain a slope 375 metres long and nearly 4 metres high in a small space between a live railway line and new residential homes.
To solve their problem they contracted Phi Group Limited, the retaining structure specialist to design, supply and build a Permacrib timber retaining wall.
In order to make maximum use of the land the retaining wall had to go as close a possible to the construction site boundary and up to 300mm from the railway boundary. In the area where the space between the house bases and site boundary was restricted, the wall was built end on.
Phi Group was on site for a continuous period of four months and successfully completed the contract in February this year.
