Product : TIMBER CRIB
Client : Centreland Project Management Ltd
Contractor : M.J Gleeson Group Plc
Project : South Benwell Regeneration, Newcastle-upon-Tyne
Wall Height : 7.8 metres

Phi Group constructed 5,738m2 of Timber Crib on one of the largest ever crib walling contracts in the UK. A total of six walls, up to 7.8m high, formed

terracing across the site to enable the construction of business units. The walls are founded on both sandstone and silty clay, interrupted by a number of coal seam outcrops. In certain locations, the standard Timber Crib footings were upgraded to form fully spanning RC slabs over areas of potential mine working subsidence. Loading on walls varied from pedestrian traffic to far more onerous vehicular loads, where the crib walls directly retained the site access road.
