Product : SOIL PANEL
Client : Persimmon Homes
Contractor : Steve Hoskin Construction
Project : Great Parks, Paignton, Devon
Wall Height : 8 metres

The scheme required the widening of an area of the site to provide a greater platform area on which the Client proposed to construct an additional row of properties.

Solution:
A number of schemes were considered involving the use of traditional gravity retaining wall system (e.g. Permacrib timber, Gabion system). However, due to the large amount of fill required to construct the platform, we concluded the best form of construction would be a reinforced soil solution. Reinforced soil systems incorporate reinforcement strips within the soil mass of the embankment to strengthen the soil and enable a steep slope to be constructed up to 70° from the horizontal.

Our Soil Panel RS system provided soil reinforcement to fill the material together with providing containment at the face for placing topsoil on crushed stone. The client preferred the topsoil finish as the embankment slope faced residential houses nearby and required a solution to minimise the visual impact.
