| Phi Group has successfully completed earth retaining works to facilitate the widening of slip roads to the busy commuter junction 4 on the M20 in Kent. |
| Several methods were used for the scheme to produce the most cost effective overall solution. One 6 metre high slope was designed with soil nailing at the base, to minimise temporary works excavation, combining with geogrid reinforced soil for the top fill section. |
The face of both sections was formed using Phi Groups Textomur system, a sacrificial steel mesh backed by a topsoil retention fabric so that the finished 60 degree slope could be grass seeded on completion.
| Gravity walls using gabions created space for highway services, and Phi Groups Terraforce hollow concrete block was used to support the edge of a stretch of widened carriageway. |
| The project took 3 months to complete, commencing at the start of May and finishing at the end of July 2006. |
