Three Peaks Challenge taken on and beaten!
In Paurics own words:
On 11th June 2011, our team of intrepid hikers began our shot at the Three Peaks Challenge at the foot of Ben Nevis. The task: over a 24hr period to complete the three highest peaks in Scotland, England and Wales. These are; Ben Nevis 1,344m (4,409ft) in Scotland, Scafell Pike 978m (3,209ft) in England and Snowdon 1,085m (3,560ft) in Wales.
Unfortunately, owing to a minibus that was limited to 60m.p.h. and a slight ‘detour’ in Scafell Pike, we completed it 2 hours after the 24hr period. However it was an amazing feat for us where most of the group had never done something like this before.
We did this for a great cause, the HCPT- the Pilgrimage Trust, group 161. Every Easter the HCPT brings thousands of children, from around the World on a special holiday to Lourdes. The children that come have special needs which could be physical, learning, social or emotional and they travel in smaller family groups of between 20 - 30 people made up from experienced volunteers, doctors and nurses. Group 161 is one of these family groups and almost all costs are met through fundraising in the local community.
In total, we raised an impressive total of £2,633.03! This included a very generous donation of £877.32 from Phi Group who matched my personal amount raised. To put that in perspective, the money raised will pay for the fares of almost 4 children for our trip in 2012.
Thank you to all for your incredible support!
