Tesco has commenced work on a £20M development which will add to the existing facilities of Hemsworth, a small town in Yorkshire. The supermarket giant is building a 57,000ft² store in addition to a new bus station, library and school.
House and flat building for a new residential estate in Dudley required cutting into a slope to maximise the development’s footprint but something had beaten client Taylor Wimpey to the site and taken up residence.
Phi Group acted as main contractor to carry out the setting out, bulk excavation and cart away to enable Phi's own Ground Engineering team to construct the soil nailed, Soil Panel SN structure.
Installed temporary soil nails to an embankment to enable the Main Contractor to create the new toll roll. The live railways bridge above the works required a very high specification for the consruction and regular monitoring.
One major rail project currently underway is for M40 Trains Limited / Chiltern Railways and involves the design and construction by Mowlem plc of a light maintenance rail depot in the shadow of the new stadium.
Following an embankment failure the Capenscleugh Road between Haydon Bridge and Fourstones, near Hexham was closed to vehicular traffic. Whilst only a minor road, the alternative was a 7 mile detour and so it was imperative that it should be re-opened as quickly as possible.
