Duloch Grange is currently being built by Bryant Homes Scotland, and the company is going to great lengths to ensure that the site harmonises with the local environment, by taking into account mature trees, wildlife, and other existing natural elements.

The company is using Permacrib, their timber crib retaining wall system in two different applications. The first is a gravity wall system of 304m2, but in view of the retained heights involved and the limitations of gravity wall loadings, the product is also being used as the facing for 787m2 of Phi Group's Permacrib Soil Nailed System.

The soil nails are installed from the top downwards and the Permacrib facing, from the bottom upwards. The nails extend to interlock with the Permacrib and form a long term retaining solution.

Soil Nailing provides a stable temporary earthworks profile preventing future movement of soils in the embankment and also protects the existing tree roots from disturbance by minimizing excavation. The Permacrib facing provides a landscaped and aesthetically pleasing face to the soil nailed structure.

The result is a maintenance free plantable timber crib wall that is attractive and retains a slope at an angle of 22º in places as high as 6.25m and 240m long across a total area of over 1000m2.
