Heathrow Airport Main Entrance

Product:

Client:
British Airports Authorities
Contractor:
Laing Civil Engineers Contractors
Project:
Heathrow Airport Main Entrance
Wall Height:
7.4 metres

Titan BlockThis project was to improve the Northern Perimeter Road at Heathrow and provide 800 business car parking spaces, close to the tunnel to the Central Terminal Area. For aesthetic reasons the design team selected three terraces instead of a single wall for the East and West Ramps, with enhanced landscaping and a lighting scheme.

Phi Group Limited designed, supplied and built the retaining walls which formed the terraces incorporating the ‘portholes' for the lighting scheme. A split face block was selected to give a natural finish, & highlighted using horizontal bands of smooth concrete. The contract involved stabilising existing slopes using soil nails, building up new embankments using reinforced soil techniques and constructing 2700m2 of modular block facing walls.
