The project

Dunedin Homes approached Phi Group to assist with the installation of a retaining wall at their new housing development in Halesowen. To maximise the development potential on site, the retaining wall was required in a cutting at the top of the site, where an existing slope was present.

The challenge

As is the case with all retaining walls, there are various considerations that need to be addressed, and then an appropriate solution developed to suit. Design life, aesthetic appearance and construction methods all need to be considered when choosing the correct solution. The retaining wall needed to be 115m long with a maximum retained height of 3.80m.

The solution

In this instance our Andacrib concrete crib retaining wall system was deemed the most appropriate. The Andacrib system is a durable solution that provides a maintenance free 120 year design life, which can also be landscaped using planting bags to give a vegetated face. The Andacrib system is also very quick to build, with 30 square metres face area a day easy to achieve.

Dunedin Homes were extremely pleased with the whole process and gave us some great feedback. David Kelly commented:

"I know you will be aware but your team have completed the Andacrib walling at Haden Cross this morning.

I must report to you how much of a pleasure it has been to have Rick and his team undertaking the wall construction, they have been most helpful, nothing was too much trouble and the finished product looks brilliant, so a big thank you from everyone at Dunedin Homes - although we have personally thanked them this morning perhaps you could also pass on our gratitude."
