Phi Group are carrying out the design, supply and installation of a gabion basket retaining wall at the new £22m National Robotarium at Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh.

Gabion Baskets

Working for Robertson Construction, the gabion basket retaining walls are to form a feature SUDS pond in front of the new building. There are three gabion basket retaining walls in total supporting both sides of the pond, with the area adjacent to the building having a two tiered construction.

In total over 175 linear metres of gabion baskets will be installed when complete, and work is progressing well in the Scottish sunshine.

Construction of the National Robotarium is a first for the UK.

The development is a partnership between the University of Edinburgh, Heriot-Watt University and the Edinburgh Centre for Robotics (ECR) who have a shared vision to create the UK’s leading innovation hub for the practical application of robotics and autonomous systems.

"This is a really exciting project that Phi Group is proud to be involved in, " said Rob Torrington, Phi Group's Business Development Director.
